BEANDEPENDENT
commissioned work
A series of custom porcelain cups developed for BEANDEPENDENT, an independent coffee shop and micro-roastery in Vienna. The pieces are wheel-thrown using reclaimed porcelain from previous projects, resulting in subtle variations in colour and surface that make each cup unique.
The design responds directly to the interior of the café, in particular the central bar constructed from recycled plastic panels by FANTOPLAST in collaboration with capeland. This dialogue between materials — recycled plastic and reprocessed porcelain — establishes a cohesive visual and conceptual language, grounded in resource-conscious production and contemporary craft.
The cups are conceived to complement the sensory experience of specialty coffee, reflecting both the precision and care involved in the roasting process and the complexity of the flavours served. Alongside the cups, a series of accompanying ceramic objects, including jugs and vases, extends the material presence within the space.
All pieces are handmade locally at the rami ceramics studio, located in close proximity to the café, reinforcing the project’s emphasis on locality, collaboration, and small-scale production.
