SPA_LOW_SKY

Grätzlprojekt

SPA_LOW_SKY is a neighbourhood-based project located in Spalowskygasse and Mittelgasse in Vienna’s 6th district, in the immediate vicinity of three schools and a kindergarten. In collaboration with school classes, artists, local residents, and students from Vienna’s art universities, we have organised a wide range of creative workshops in public space as part of this ongoing project.

The project was initiated and organised by Rolf Laven and myself. Since autumn 2021, workshops with pupils have taken place on an annual basis.

In addition to coordinating and communicating with our partners, such as the city administration and urban initiatives like Grätzloase or OeAD, I have been actively involved as a workshop facilitator.

Together with the pupils, I constructed raised beds while exploring the design principles of permaculture. We created clay sculptures using locally sourced Viennese clay from underground construction sites, as well as ceramic irrigation systems for our garden beds.

Alongside the SPA_LOW_SKY project, I regularly collaborate with schools in Vienna, such as the Integrative Lernwerkstatt Brigittenau. The educational and outreach projects I initiate or am commissioned to undertake are typically connected to the material of ceramics or engage more broadly with earth as a medium (including soil, humus, clay/sand, and mineral raw materials).

Thank you for the support:
